VR-world: Apollo 11
On July 16, 1969, everyone was ready for the most exciting moment ever in space travel - the Apollo program. At 13:32 UTC, the Saturn V rocket was launched from the Kennedy Space Center. So that's 9:32 a.m. local time in Belgium. It was a NASA space program with the goal of landing the very first human on the moon.
The progression of the VR world
I decided pretty quickly that I wanted to make my VR world about the first moon landing. It's a big historical event that you can portray well in different ways. I found the CoSpaces program challenging at first. I didn't find it very useful for moving yourself around and moving objects etc. But after trying out a few things, it worked out better and better.
I found explaining the moon landing in one room a bit boring, so I created three different rooms. In the first room you see the launch of the rocket with all the explanations that go with it. If you go to the next room, you are on the moon. There you can find all the information about the effective mission. I also found videos and pictures to explain things better. Then, of course, the third room is the return to Earth. Between the stars and flying debris, people learn some fun facts.
In all the rooms I tried to put enough animation and images anyway. This way it becomes attractive for the users of the VR world. The figures and people present were all animated so that it is not static and there are moving objects in the world. I also provide the extra atmosphere and imagination through the background music. The information, facts and pictures can be found on the panels. I hope everyone can empathize with the Apollo 11 moon landing.
Journalistically relevant
I fully explain the Apollo program in the form of small texts. I also provide images and videos that provide additional interpretation. I often get the information from newspaper articles. The VR world can make people have a better understanding and knowledge about the space mission. And that in a fun way!
